How Can I Seal a Transmission Leak?

#driveyourlife

Having a leak in your transmission can be a dangerous thing. It may seem like a few drips here and there won’t end up being a problem, but let’s do the math.  Assuming the puddle is big enough for you to notice, let’s say a puddle about the size of a dollar bill overnight, your transmission would lose about a quart of fluid every 10 days.  If your transmission holds 4 quarts of oil in the pan, then that’s a quarter of your fluid capacity gone in 10 days, and almost all of it gone in a month!

Having low transmission fluid can cause a lot of  expensive and frustrating problems.  First, the lack of fluid can cause higher than usually transmission temperatures.  The fluid in the transmission helps car heat away from friction points.  Less fluid means a higher temperature and a reduced capacity to cool the friction components allowing them to wear faster and potentially fail sooner.  An inadequate transmission fluid level also can mean poor lubrication if there is not enough fluid to reach the critical areas of the transmission also causing premature wear.  Lastly, a low transmission fluid level can cause dangerous drivability issues for your vehicle.  Transmission fluid is the high pressure operating fluid that cause gear smooth and accurate gear changes.  A low level can allow your vehicle to behave unpredictably and possibly even dangerously.

If you maintain your vehicle well and notice the transmission fluid leak, you may consider continuing to top of the transmission fluid level ensuring you don’t end up damaging your transmission due to a low fluid level.  Transmission fluid can range from 8$ a quart up to $15 a quart or more, so every 10 days you’re having to spend that much in replacement fluid, not to mention the time it takes to fill and check your fluid level every few days and continue to go to the auto parts store to purchase more fluid, funnels and clean up materials.

How to find a transmission leak?

Transmission LeakThe most common leak points on automatic transmissions are the input and output shaft seals.  There is a shaft on the front of the transmission that slides either into the clutch plate or the torque converter that has splines on it.  This shaft transfers power from the engine to the gears in the transmission and will have an oil seal around it.  The output shaft similarly will have a seal that goes around the shaft, a slip yoke or the CV axles depending on the type of vehicle.  As these shafts or axles spin while your drive, over time they can start to wear down the seals around them.  Also, old fluid, low fluid or a lack of driving can cause these seals to dry out, harden or crack causing leaks.

Replacing these seals can often be a costly venture, and depending on the age of your vehicle and how long you intend to continue driving it, it may not be cost effective to replace them entirely.

You do however have another option.  Add BlueDevil Transmission Sealer next time you top off your automatic transmission fluid.  BlueDevil Transmission Sealer is specially formulated to restore the seals on the input and output shafts of your transmission to their original size and soft condition to seal your transmission leak.  Depending on the speed of your transmission leak BlueDevil Transmission Sealer can pay for itself in 2 weeks or less by saving you money on replacement transmission fluid.

Or, purchase BlueDevil Transmission Sealer directly from BlueDevil here.

Will this work if the cooler line is leaking a little. Its not spewing out just drips.

      Joe-

The BlueDevil is not intended for a leak coming from the cooler line. We recommend having it replaced.

Will it help seal a case seal on the bottom portion near my left cv axle

Yes, the BlueDevil Transmission Sealer would work to seal the leak you have described. You will not need a whole lot of product based on the small capacity. You should add 1 ounce of BlueDevil per every 1 quart of capacity. Expect to notice results after about 100 miles of driving.

          Thank You!

What if your friend accidently adds the whole bottle? Is it going to mess the car up?

            Tee-

It is very important to follow all of the directions properly to ensure best results. Using the full bottle will not harm your vehicle but you may want to siphon some of the fluid down and refill with the factory recommended transmission fluid.

            Thank you!

I added blue devil to my Hyundai Sonata gls 2014 and helped for 400 miles after that I keep having the problem. I put 16oz I went to transmission especially place they told me the transmission is missing pressure and the mechanic advised to buy expensive part. What I should do? Do you think I have to put more blue devil? This can help me to save my car.

Thank you for asking about your Hyundai Sonata. Based on your description, we do recommend a second application of the BlueDevil Transmission Sealer. The fact that you noticed some kind of improvement is definitely a good sign and would warrant re-attempting the product. As long as the leak isn’t more than seeping or lightly dripping, you would be a good candidate for the BlueDevil Transmission Sealer. You will use one oz. of the product per quart of fluid in the system. Expect to start seeing results after 100-200 miles of driving.

I have a 1997 Honda Accord with a bad front seal. The transmission fluid comes out as fast as you put it in. Will this product work on it and if so how many times will you have to add transmission fluid until it stops leaking?

          • BlueDevil Pro on February 27, 2023 at 8:32 am

            Teresa-

Unfortunately, it sounds like the leak you have is too larger than what the product is intended for. If you are losing fluid just as quickly as you add it, you would lose the product just as quickly. A hard part repair may be your best option.

            Thank you!

Hi, I just used a bit of the blue devil sealant for my transmission leaks, but I noticed that the leak is still there, when I put the car on either idle mode or park mode, what should I do? I use a ford edge 2008 model. P.S I only used 10 caps of the bluedevil sealant.

          • BlueDevil Pro on September 19, 2023 at 9:58 am

            Yewande-

Typically, it will take around 100-200 miles of driving before you start to see improvement. It would not have the same effect by idling the vehicle. As long as you are not losing fluid too quickly, you would be a good candidate, however, you would need to drive the vehicle in order to get the benefit of using it.

Is it ok to pour 16 ounces of blue devil to 14 quarts of oil transmission fluid

      • BlueDevil Pro on April 3, 2017 at 11:47 am

        Roger-

The proper amount of BlueDevil Transmission Sealer to add to a 14 quart system would be 14 oz. You really only want to add the recommended amount of the product. However, the product does not harden or thicken in anyway, so it would not have any adverse affects on the system.

        Thank you!

      • BlueDevil Pro on February 5, 2018 at 9:28 am

        Phillip-

Thank you for asking about your Nissan Altima. The BlueDevil Transmission Sealer (https://store.gobdp.com/transmission-sealer-00236/) is intended for leaks that are seeping or lightly dripping from the system. As long as you are not losing fluid too quickly, you would be a great candidate for the product. You should expect to see results after about 100-200 miles of driving.

        Thank you!

If using in a transfer case the oil stop leak product, once the leak has gone away should you replace the oil?

          • BlueDevil Pro on February 26, 2024 at 8:34 am

            Nate-

You would be fine to leave the product in the oil for the life of the oil. It does not have to be changed out immediately or after results are achieved. If you would like to drain and replace the fluid, make sure the product is in the transfer case for at least 300 miles of driving before doing so.

            Thank you!

What if you are already have transmission fluid in your transmission and you notice that the transmission is leaking can you just add one oz Blue Devil

        • BlueDevil Pro on October 26, 2020 at 8:11 am

          Darryl-

You should be using one oz. of the BlueDevil Transmission Sealer per quart of fluid in the system, capacity. If the system is already relatively low, you may add the recommended amount of BlueDevil and then top if off with transmission fluid. Be careful not to overfill the system.

          Thank you!

My transmission pan is overtightened and the gasket is smooshing out the sides some. It looks like it’s made of cardboard, as others have also mentioned elsewhere. OEM 1984 mediumduty truck. The plate seems nearly impossible to remove. Ever heard of a transmission stopleak fixing a leaky cardboard paper gasket oozing out the sides due. To overtorque? How long can the seal last?

      • BlueDevil Pro on May 27, 2020 at 10:27 am

        John-

Unfortunately, we do not manufacture a product intended to treat cardboard or paper. Our BlueDevil Transmission Sealer is only intended for rubber seals/gaskets. Having the the gasket replaced sounds like it would be your best bet.

Will this work in Manual Transmission (2007 Ralliart Colt) ? I have a very small leak on my input shaft seal (100ml every 6 months). Currently running Redline 75W90. Does it thicken the fluid at all ?

    • BlueDevil Pro on March 18, 2015 at 2:18 pm

      Shane-

The BlueDevil Transmission Sealer does not harden or thicken in any way. You should add 1 ounce of BlueDevil per every 1 quart of capacity.

Results should be noticed after about 100 miles of driving.

      Thank You!

    • BlueDevil Pro on June 1, 2015 at 10:21 am

Typically, you would start to see results after about 100-200 miles of driving. It does not have to be a continuous drive. You are fine to drive in 5,10 mile intervals, here and there. It would just be around the 100 mile mark before you would start to notice improvement. Feel free to contact our technical support line at 888-863-0426 with any other questions.

Thanks for your question about your Cadillac Deville. If your leak is still just a dripping leak for a gasket or seal then BlueDevil Transmission Sealer will restore the seal and stop your leak. You need to make sure to replace the worn bushing to get everything back into alignment before you try to seal your leak.

I have a 97 Ford Taurus I don’t see a Leck or anything but it takes a long time to catch gear I already put 4 bottles of transmission fluid in it

    • BlueDevil Pro on November 3, 2015 at 10:59 am

      Dwayne-

The best place to start would be to change your transmission fluid and filter and then double check to make sure the fluid level is correct. Having the transmission fluid level too high or too low can cause the transmission to act up and not shift properly.

If you are still experiencing the hard shifting after changing the fluid and filter and topping to to the proper level then you may want to have your Taurus looked at by a transmission specialist.

      Thanks!

        • BlueDevil Pro on February 24, 2016 at 8:33 am

          Ashley-

The BlueDevil Transmission Sealer is intended for leaks that are seeping or lightly dripping from the system. Based on your description, you may be losing fluid a little too quickly for the product. Typically you would start to see results after about 100-200 miles of driving. If you would be losing all of your fluid before you got to that point, you would not be able to keep the sealer in the system long enough to get the benefit of it.

          Thank you!

I have a 1994 Ford Explorer. It is leaking about 1 quart of fluid every 2-1/2 days. Im not ready to have to go thru the extensive labor especially without a lift to the drop the transmission right now inorder to replace the front transmission seal. I wanted to know if your Blue Devil Transmission Sealer would do the job and hopefully save me the grief of having to drop the transmission at this time for a leaking seal. Once again it leaks about 1 quart of transmission fluid every 2 to 3 days, which is a pretty serious leak and costly. Im hope your product will be my savior.

Yes, based on your description we do recommend adding the proper amount of BlueDevil Transmission Sealer to your Explorer. Can I pour the seal leak in first and then add the transmission fulid or is it the other way around

        Owe-

You are able to add the BlueDevil Transmission Sealer and then top it off with transmission fluid. You will use one oz. of the product per quart of fluid in the system, capacity. Be careful not to overfill the system.

        Thank you!

I posted on your blog just two days ago. I went ahead and purchased the Blue Devil Transmissin sealer that very same morning. I added the proper amount of the product as instructed and drove the car 250 miles sense then. Right away I seen that the puddle of tansmission fluid that was being left on my drive way was getting less and less. This morning I was parked in a new spot over night and now would’nt you know, I didnt find one bit of transmission fluid on the ground under the car.
This is great news for me and I hope it will last for a long while. Im impressed considering I have already tried many different brands of transmission sealers that are on the shelves with no results to fix the problem. Just more wasted money was all. If I had only tried Blue Devil first I would have saved more money. I deffinitly will tell everyone I know that has these type of leaks to try Blue Devil first to fix there problems. I cant thank the people who came up with and made this product enough. Thank You So Very Much. Sincerly, James Muir.
    A Very Satisfied Consumer.

    Hello,

I have a Golf Cart Differential that is leaking oil slightly at the Input shaft. This product seems like it would work, but the golf cart is actually filled with motor oil (per the manufacturer’s recommendation). Would this product also stop the motor oil from leaking through the seal?

    • BlueDevil Pro on January 21, 2016 at 12:29 pm

      Andrew-

Yes, we would recommend adding BlueDevil Oil Stop Leak to help stop the oil loss you are experiencing. Use 1 ounce of BlueDevil per every 1 quart of capacity. Expect to start seeing results after about 1 – 2 hours of use.

Yes, BlueDevil Transmission Sealer is compatible and safe to use in your BMW. Based on the capacity of your transmission we recommend adding 8 ounces of BlueDevil Transmission Sealer for proper treatment. Expect to start seeing results after about 100 miles of driving.

    • BlueDevil Pro on February 5, 2016 at 9:36 am

You should add the proper amount of BlueDevil Transmission Sealer to address the transmission fluid leak; 1 ounce of BlueDevil will treat 1 quart of transmission fluid. For the oil leak, we recommend using BlueDevil Oil Stop Leak, you should add one 8 ounce bottle. Once the products are added you can expect to start seeing results after about 100 miles of driving.

Does the BlueDevil transmission stop leak product cause any gumming in an automatic transmission?

    • BlueDevil Pro on February 8, 2016 at 4:13 pm

      Scott-

BlueDevil Transmission Sealer (http://store.gobdp.com/transmission-sealer-00236/) does not thicken or harden at any point. There is absolutely no risk at causing “gumming” or any other type of harm to the system.

You should add 1 ounce of BlueDevil per every 1 quart of fluid capacity; you may not need the full bottle. You can expect to start seeing results after about 100 miles of driving.

There is no real difference in adding transmission fluid first or adding the BlueDevil Transmission Sealer first, as long as you are using the proper amount of the product and you did not overfill the system. You should expect to see results after about 100-200 miles of driving. Feel free to contact our technical support line at 888-863-0426 with any other questions.

My only concern is that I already added lubegard red to condition my transmission, will adding blue devil be a problem if the other additive is in there, the other additive is not a seal sweller.

Thank you for asking about your Cadillac Deville. Based on your description, we recommend using the BlueDevil Oil Stop Leak. The Oil Stop Leak is a universal application and would treat leaks coming from the oil pan gasket, valve cover seal, rear main seal, transmission, etc. As long as you are not losing fluid too quickly, you would be a good candidate for the product. You should expect to see results after about 100-200 miles of driving.

Well, I meant the trans, anyway I put 8oz. In & drove 140 miles. The cars been sitting now for 24 hrs & I $h!+ you not there’s not a drop on the floor!
I am genuinely shocked! For anyone who has a bad tranny leak, be advised, my case / pans are not cracked, the tranny was rebuilt @ 2 years ago, & operating very well. I think my gaskets started cracking after sitting in below freezing temp at @ 8000 ft above sea level. My question to bdp at this point, how does the tranny seal effect the oil & the mechanics within the transmission? How can you prove it?

        • BlueDevil Pro on April 4, 2016 at 9:20 am

          Mark-

Thank you for the excellent feedback, we are glad the BlueDevil Transmission Sealer was able to stop the leak in your vehicle! The product is only affecting the rubbers in the system. It is revitalizing and reconditioning the rubber seals or gasket, and will swell them up or expand them back to their original state. The product would not have any affect on the oil or the mechanics within the transmission itself.

          Thank you!

I have a leak in the transfer case of my 4×4. The transfer case uses 75w-90 gear oil. The leak appears to be coming from the gasket between the transfer case halves (the case is splittable when disassembled). I believe the gasket is paper, not rubber. The case is NOT leaking from the rubber input or output shaft seals. Will the transmission sealer work on the paper gasket between the transfer case halves?

    • BD Auto Pro on May 12, 2016 at 5:17 pm

      Eric,

Thanks for your question about your Audi A4. The real question for us is why your car started leaking so much fluid so quickly. If you’ve had a slow leak for a long time that has been getting steadily worse then you might try using BlueDevil Transmission Sealer to stop the leak. If the leak has suddenly gotten worse it may be an indication of a bigger problem like a worn bearing allowing the shaft to wobble or or something else misaligned so it may be wise to remove and inspect the transmission to ensure there aren’t any bigger problems.

      Thanks again for your question!

Thank you for asking about your Buick Roadmaster. From the sounds of it, you may be losing fluid a little too quickly in order for the product to be effective. Typically, you would start to see results after about 100-200 miles of driving. If you are losing fluid too quickly, you would be losing the product just as quickly, and wouldn’t really be able to keep it in the system long enough in order to get the benefit of using it. A hard part repair may be your best option.

I have flushed the transmission fluid completely but as soon as my wife drove it to Walmart (which is only 1 mile from home) it started acting how it did before I flushed it and the Check Engine Light came on. The place said I had a small oil leak but I never see any spots in my driveway so it must be very small if there is one. Will Blue Devil work in my situation?

Thank you for asking about your Infiniti g35. Based on your description, we recommend using the BlueDevil Oil Stop Leak, found here on our website: http://store.gobdp.com/oil-stop-leak-49499/. The BlueDevil Oil Stop Leak is more concentrated and is the universal application that will work for oil pan leaks, rear main leaks, valve cover gasket leaks, etc. Being that it doesn’t sound like you’re exactly sure where the leak is coming from, the Oil Stop Leak is what you would want to use.

I have an 04 sienna and the transmission started to leak from the seal at the torque converter software I went and replaced the seal thinking it will fix the problem but I assembled it and its still leaking so I thought maybe the seal isn’t tight enough so I got a new seal and just shortened the spring to make the seal a little tighter. Put that all together and again it’s leaking I’m just alreadyet running out of ideas what it can be. Also it only leaks when the car is in gear reverse or forward… doesn’t leak when in park… what can it be?

I have a 2006 Subaru Legacy 2.5i 4T. Is Blue Devil safe to use in CVT transmissions? Thanks

    • BlueDevil Pro on November 28, 2016 at 12:14 pm

      Bobby-

Thank you for asking about your Subaru Legacy. Unfortunately, BlueDevil Transmission Sealer is not compatible for use in CVT transmissions.  We do not manufacture a product that will work on those types of transmissions.  CVT transmissions require a very specific type of transmission fluid that can not be contaminated with any other type of fluid.

      Thank you!

I’ve got a World Class T5 transmission from a 1991 V8 Camaro. Is BlueDevil sealer suitable for this car?

It is not leaking from the input or output shaft. It is leaking from the seam where two pieces of the case are bolted together with RTV. It leaks a couple drips every time I drive it. And it only leaks when driving it.

    Will it seal this area?

    • BlueDevil Pro on January 3, 2017 at 2:33 pm

      Salvador-

Based on the location of your leak we do not recommend using BlueDevil Transmission Sealer. BlueDevil Transmission Sealer is specifically designed to stop fluid loss coming from any rubber seal or gasket but not from a seam.

      Thank you!

I have a 2WD 97 Chevy s10 pickup truck with 2 leaks in the transmission one of the leaks is from the front seal and the other one is coming from gasket on the pan the leaks really aren’t that bad when driving around town but they get extremely bad if I drive on the highway will Blue Devil Transmission Sealer work for the leaks my truck is having?
Please let me know ASAP. I’d really appreciate it. The truck is the only thing I have to get around in and I really can’t afford to get a new car or the transmission repaired do to I’m on disability. Thanks in advance.

Thank you for asking about your Chevy S10. As long as you are not losing transmission fluid too quickly, you would be a great candidate for the BlueDevil Transmission Sealer (http://store.gobdp.com/transmission-sealer-00236/). You should expect to see results after about 100-200 miles of driving.

      Doug-

Thank you for asking about your Ford Ranger. The BlueDevil Transmission Sealer wouldn’t instantaneously seal. I have a Buick LeSabre 2003. I drove it about 300 miles last year. Last year mechanic notice transmission fluid leaking. One year later, transmission fluid not low enough to top off during oil change. Mechanic thought if might be a faulty seal. Since I drive so little, would it harm the car to use the product as suggested, it may takes 6-9 months to get to 200 miles? Will it work if you only put in an ounce or two?

    • BlueDevil Pro on July 27, 2017 at 9:29 am

      Joe-

Thank you for asking about your Buick LeSabre. The BlueDevil Transmission Sealer would still work in the situation you have described, it would just be around the 200 mile mark before you would have the full benefit of the product. You will be using one oz. of the product per quart of fluid in the system.

  56. Derek on January 19, 2018 at 1:28 am

Hi, I have a 1995 F250 with the ZF5 MANUAL 5 speed transmission, last Saturday I did a simple drain and fill on the transmission, using the Ford recommend full synthetic Mercon V fluid.

Prior to the task all was well and no leaking, (although the fluid that was in the transmission looked a bit thicker than what ford recommended), but after the change I started noticing a bit of an odor so I checked it out and I have a small leak forming at the output shaft seal!

My question is: With the fluid that was in the truck when I purchased it used, coming out thicker that the recommended fluid, and this problem starting upon a change, is it possible that the old fluid was simply not making it to this seal and thus not showing a leak until the thinner fluid was added, or some odd counteraction between the different fluids? And if so I am not sure how long the seal may or may not have been dry, or if the previous owner may have added thicker oil th “mask” the issue, and was wondering if the seal has been dry too long, will your product work or should I just take it directly to a repair shop? It shifts perfect but just wanted to hopefully catch it early if possible.

    • BlueDevil Pro on January 19, 2018 at 9:19 am

      Derek-

Thank you for asking about your Ford F-250. Based on your description, it seems likely that the old transmission fluid you removed was too thick to leak out of the seal and that the new fluid added was thin enough to find it’s way out of the leak formed in the output shaft seal. As long as you are not losing fluid too quickly, you would be a great candidate for the BlueDevil Transmission Sealer (https://store.gobdp.com/transmission-sealer-00236/). You should expect to see results after about 100-200 miles of driving.

I was curious about my Nissan Rogue 09, the transfer case seems to be slinging a little gear oil all around. I believe its the outer seal, but the transfer case gear oil is seperate from the transmission fluid. (Not sure what kind of transfer cases these other people have) But i was curious if I would need to put this directly into the transfer case or if it somehow reaches over from placing the fluid into the transmission fluid? And do you think it would help? It doesn’t seem to be much, just a minor amount that doesn’t drip, just slings around and causes a minor amount of smoke after a long drive.

    • BlueDevil Pro on July 16, 2018 at 8:24 am

      Joshua-

Losing 1 quart over within a day is a fairly large leak. However, there is a chance that BlueDevil Transmission Sealer would be able to seal it. For best results we recommend driving 1 – 2 hours right after adding the proper amount of BlueDevil. This will ensure that the product works as quickly as possible before most of it leaks out.

Are you asking about knowing how much transmission fluid to add or how much of the BlueDevil Transmission Sealer to add? You would use one oz. of the product per quart of fluid in the system. The transmission capacity can be found in your owners manual. If the vehicle does not have a dipstick, the transmission fluid must be checked at the transmission. This requires lifting the car on four jack stands. It must be level to check the fluid.

  72. Rich Harkness on April 24, 2020 at 1:27 pm

Several years ago I bought a 35 year old John Deere 317 garden tractor that had been unused for many years, fixed it up a bit and added a front end loader. Now Its total system capacity is about 7 qts of hydraulic fluid. When I first got it running, the transmission shaft seal leaked as did several quick disconnect hydraulic fittings. To fix those leaks I added your Tranmission Sealer sealer per the directions ( 1oz/qt) and it seemed to slow those leaks dramatically. But now three years later and with very little use over that time (maybe three times for a total of 2 hours), those seals and Orings are leaking again. It will take adding about 2 quarts of ATF to replace whats leaked out. I wondered if I should add 7 oz of sealer now as i replace those 2 lost quarts (assuming the sealer I added three years ago is no longer effective) or whether adding another 7 oz in addition to the 7 oz I added three years ago would damage something. Or alternately to add just 2 oz more to treat the 2 qts of new transmission fluid I am adding. Your tech line expert said neither was correct. He said I should not add any more Blue Devil. Whats already in the system should suffice. Did I understand this correctly?

Also I asked how long I would need to run the tractor before the already treated fluid would rejuvenate the seals and O rings that must have deteriorated again during these last three years of little use. He said at least 3 hrs.

It would be helpful if you web site clearly explained some of these things.

    • BlueDevil Pro on April 24, 2020 at 3:46 pm

      Rich-

Thank you for asking about your John Deere 317. Sorry for any confusion you may have encountered when calling our technical support line. Based on your description, the confusion may lie in your application of the product.
Typically with the product, you should expect to see results after 1-2 hours of operation. To confirm, you’ve used the tractor a total of 2 hours in that 3 year time span? Did you operate the tractor more when you first added the product, or was that 2 hours total starting from when you added the BlueDevil Transmission Sealer? If it has only been operated for 2 hours total since the product was added, that may explain the reason for the recommendation. Adding more of the product would not be recommended if the vehicle/equipment wasn’t operated or driven long enough. It seems we may have missed the detail that you added the product about 3 years ago, and for that we apologize. That would definitely be key in trying to trouble shoot the problem.
You were correct to add one oz. of the product per quart of fluid in the system, however, more of the product would not be recommended to add every time you were having to add transmission fluid. With the amount of time that passed from when the product was first introduced, it’s difficult to judge the size of the leak. If you’ve operated the tractor for 2 hours, and were 2 quarts low on transmission fluid, it sounds like you are losing about a quart of fluid/hour. Keep in mind, in a lot of cases, the reason seals/gaskets develop leaks is because of non-use. Especially in older equipment, when those rubber seals/gaskets aren’t being lubricated on a more regular basis, they start to become brittle and start to deteriorate, thus allowing fluid to leak out. The BlueDevil Transmission Sealer works by revitalizing and reconditioning those rubbers, specifically the transmission shaft seal for your John Deere, to get them back to their original shape and original flexibility. The product is only working when you are operating the equipment.
Understandably, you are not required to operate the vehicle/equipment any more than you normally would but, it sounds like you may have wanted to operate the tractor more than you did over the last 3 years. In terms of re-treating the tractor, you would add one oz. per quart of fluid capacity. Feel free to contact us with any other questions.

      Thank you!

    • BlueDevil Pro on August 14, 2020 at 8:53 am

      David-

Yes, the BlueDevil Transmission Sealer would be able to seal the leak you’ve described your Volkswagen Golf. You will use one oz. of the product per quart of fluid in the system, and should expect to start seeing improvement after 100-200 miles of driving.

      Thank you!

What if I’m unsure if it’s my transmission that is leaking. Is it bad to still pour the sealer in ?

    • BlueDevil Pro on August 19, 2020 at 9:18 am

      Michael-

Try checking the transmission fluid level. It is very important that the transmission fluid is not under/overfilled If the fluid appears low, it would indicate you are losing transmission fluid and would be a candidate for the BlueDevil Transmission Sealer.

      Thank you!

i have a 1966 thunderbird which uses f type fluid’ I had my transmission rebuilt 18 years ago. I start it up but don,t drive very much. But each time i do I notice a pool of fluid under it. I have about 6000 miles since rebuilt. will BLUEDEVIL transmission sealer fit it.

    • BlueDevil Pro on September 8, 2021 at 8:50 am

      Ben-

Thank you for asking about your Thunderbird. BlueDevil Transmission Sealer works by revitalizing and reconditioning the rubber seals/gaskets in the transmission, while you drive. It is intended for leaks that are seeping or lightly dripping. Typically, you should expect to start seeing results after 100-200 miles of driving. You don’t have to take it on a road trip or an extended drive, however, you do need to be actively driving the vehicle for the product to seal.

      Thank you!

Will this product work for a leaking transmission shifter bushing?

        • BlueDevil Pro on September 15, 2021 at 1:41 pm

          Joshua-

The BlueDevil Transmission Sealer would only have an effect on rubber gaskets. It would not have any influence on the shifter linkage bushing.

          Thank you!

I have an 04 ford Ranger not sure how much transmission sealer to add leaking from transmission pan.

    • BlueDevil Pro on November 22, 2021 at 8:43 am

      Nicholas-

The transmission capacity for your Ford Ranger appears to be about 10 quarts, so you would be using 10 oz. of the BlueDevil Transmission Sealer. Be careful not to overfill the system. You should expect to start seeing results after 100-200 miles of driving.

      Thank you!

How you doing I need to know will this blue devil work becuse I have a Toyota Camry 20034c and I noticed I had trasmission fuel leaking on the ground when I woke up then when I took it for a spin it started to jerk then later it didn’t even let me drive or nothing it was reversing on it’s own even in park .I’m stuck far from my hotel and not a lot of money left until I get paid please help

    • BlueDevil Pro on December 8, 2021 at 8:39 am

      Markies-

Thank you for asking about your Toyota Camry. As long as the leak isn’t more than seeping or lightly dripping, you would be a good candidate for the BlueDevil Transmission Sealer. You will use one oz. of the product per quart of fluid capacity. You should expect to start seeing improvement after 100-200 miles of driving. However, unless it is due to the transmission fluid leak, the product will not help with a jerking/shifting issue.

      Thank you!

I have a leak in my T-Case, 98 jeep Cherokee. It’s at the bolt that holds the whole thing together, very small. Will Blue Devil help out with this?

    • BlueDevil Pro on February 3, 2023 at 3:35 pm

      Ralph-

Thank you for asking about your Jeep Cherokee. The BlueDevil Transmission Sealer is only intended to treat rubber gaskets/seals. It would not have any effect on a metal component. Replacement may be your best option.

      Thank you!

I have a 2016 Mazda CX-9 with a leaking axle shaft seal. I’ve noticed little puddle here and there but nothing major. Will this work for it? I’m not sure if the seal is rubber or metal.

    • BlueDevil Pro on February 15, 2023 at 4:27 pm

      Ashley-

Thank you for asking about your Mazda CX-9. Yes, the BlueDevil Transmission Sealer would be able to treat a leaking axle seal. As long as the leak isn’t more than a seep, or lightly dripping, you would be a good candidate for the product.

      Thank you!
